EPFO members can avail numerous services on their registered mobile number through SMS. It is mandatory for a new member to register their mobile number when signing up for the first time with the EPFO portal.

However, when you change your mobile number and try to access your EPF data, you realise that the old number was registered with the EPFO. Now, you need to do an EPF mobile number change, so that the EPFO portal reflects the new number. And you are left thinking, how to change mobile number in pf account or how to update mobile number in EPFO.

EPF mobile number change is essential, because, without it, you won’t be able to avail the services or get the updates through SMS. So, let us check out the simple steps in which an EPFO member can do EPF mobile number change online.

Steps for EPFO mobile number registration online

Before we learn how to update your mobile number, we should understand the process of first-time registration of your mobile number on the EPFO Member portal.

When the UAN gets generated, the EPFO member has to activate the UAN by logging in into the EPFO member portal. The EPFO member can activate the UAN in the following steps:

  • Go to the EPFO Member portal
  • Select “Activate UAN” present on the right side of the screen under the “Important Links” option.
  • Enter your UAN number, name, birth date, email ID and mobile number.
  • After entering the details, hit the “Get Authorization Pin” button.
  • You will receive an OTP on your mobile number.
  • Submit the given OTP to activate the UAN. This way, the mobile number will get registered with the EPF account too.

After the mobile number is registered with the UAN, you will begin receiving all SMS communications from EPFO.

Over time, you may change your mobile number and want to update your new number with the EPFO portal. In such a case, when you go to the portal, you realise that not only have you forgotten your password, but you also don’t have the old number.

PF

  • Finally, the latest mobile number gets updated into the system, and the password also gets changed successfully.

Benefits of updating your mobile number

There are several advantages to making sure that your EPFO profile is updated with the right number. Some of these are:

  • You can check your EPF balance by simply sending a text message from your registered mobile number.
  • Your claim status can be easily checked with the help of the updated mobile number.
  • When contributions are made to your EPF account, you will get an SMS update on your registered mobile number confirming the successful deposit of the contribution amount.
  • When you wish to withdraw the EPF amount and initiate the process for the same, you will receive an SMS update on your registered mobile number stating that the amount has been credited or the process of crediting the amount to the bank account has been initiated.
  • Mobile number should be registered to transfer your funds from an old EPF account to a new one.
  • While doing any activity on your EPF member portal, you will need to validate the process, and validation can only be done with the help of the OTP which is normally sent to the registered mobile number.

This is how you can change your mobile number in your EPF account, and also change your password if you have forgotten your existing password.

“Visit this page, enter the UAN, Captcha, and click on Forgot Password and follow the instructions.”

I cannot login until my password is reset and to get that done, I need to change my phone number.

So I gave ‘No’ to the below question

“Do you wish to send OTP on the above mobile number? : NO”

And then it throws me below error

“Your UAN is not linked with AADHAAR, first member has to link his/her AADHAAR with UAN through his/her employer or eKYC portal”

And when I go to eKYC portal, I cannot login since reset is pending which is taking me to Step 1. I am in a circle now. Is there a get out pass from this situation

In your case, submit an Aadhaar-based composite claim form to withdraw PF dues.

While sending the form to the PF office, you can add a cover note stating the name of the establishment where you worked but is now closed.

The EPFO page might not be opening due to a technical glitch. You can wait for a few hours and try again. Please ensure that any details you change on the PF portal must match Aadhaar Details. For instance, if you want to change the number on the PF portal then you must first link the (new) number to your Aadhaar.

      Hi Niteen,

You need to submit your updated Aadhaar details (with new mobile number) to your employer to upload the same for your UAN. Keep in mind that this must happen through employer login. Once seeded and approved, you can click on Forgot Password on the EPFO portal to change your password and mobile number.

HI I wanted to change my mobile number and I forgot my password for EPFO login. When I try to proceed without giving OTP it used to show 2 options of Aadhaar/PAN but now only AADHAR option is available and the problem is AADHAR is not linked to the UAN. What should I do now to resolve this problem?

      Hi Suraj,

You need to share your Aadhaar details with your employer in order to seed your Aadhaar Number as part of KYC against your UAN. Once Aadhaar is approved, you can access your UAN.

      Hi Deepti,

Approval from EPFO should take 10 to 15 working days. It depends on the number of forms that have been submitted online.

    Hi Sir,

I do not know which mobile number linked to my UAN. I forgot my password as well. When I click on forgot password. It is asking me to give UAN, NAME and Date of Birth. After that it is asking me to enter AADHAR number.
Once I enter my AADHAR number, it is going for an error as Name and DOB should be same as in AADHAR. In my aadhar my name is with only initial (B) and in EPFO portal it is updated as initial name (BHEEMA).

Please suggest, how to change my name and mobile number in this case.

    Thank you in Advance!

      Hi Bheema,

In that case, for name correction, you need to approach the EPFO or your employer with a Joint Declaration form.
